Trinity Flyers Fund Raising

Trinity Flyers Fund Raising Events

Trinity Marinas and Trinity Motors are entering a number of challenges throughout 2010 to raise money for Parkinsons Disease Society, Cancer Research and Help for Heroes.

We are to be known as the Trinity Flyers and we are currently entered into the following events.  We will update this page of our progress throughout the year, including entrants, photos and times achieved.

28th February, multi terrain 5k run at Irchester Country Park - Entrants Hannah Donaghue, Lee Chiswell and Sharon Woodward.

Well the 1st event of the season is complete and what a day! Wind, rain, lots of puddles and lots and lots of mud, making the going pretty tough.  Although there is also no doubt that it is very liberating to splash through puddles and get caked in mud!  Not sure Lee would agree who fell over in the mud and temporarily lost his sense of humour!

Times Lee 29.13 51/104, Hannah 27.12 40/104, Sharon 26.10 33/104 so all pretty respectable!

Now for the pic!

7th to 10th May, Tuscan Trek, the equivalent of  UK 3 Peaks - Entrants Di and Sharon Woodward, Tom Beckwith, Hannah Donaghue and Emma Smith.

Friday:
Taxi to Fornovolasco from Pisa.  Checked in and ate lunch at Rifugio La Buca, 480m. Departed for Monte Forato (The Pierced Mountain), 1223m, at 1430h via Route 12, summitted at 1630h. Light rain throughout. Hannah, Di and our guide Steve traversed the arch. They are insane!!  Sheer drops on either side.  Check out the pics.  Sharon attempted a traverse, but turned back when vertigo kicked in and her legs started to shake uncontrollably!!  Continued up Route 110 south, but lost the path. Returned via 12 to Fornovolasco for 1900h. Total distance: 7KM, total climb: 750m. Happened upon an Alpine Salamander on return leg.

Saturday:
Departed Rifugio La Buca at 0930h. Weather cool with occasional heavy rain. Given the snowy conditions Steve (our guide) had seen on the Uomo Morlo ('the dead man' ridge; so named for its resemblance to a recumbant male figure, not for its mortal reputation!) the previous evening, he opted to head for Foce Di Petrosciana (960m) then proceed to Rifugio Del Freo via Route 124, which contours under the precipitous Western flanks of Monte Forato and Pania Della Croce (Mountain of the Cross). At Casa Puccio we missed an overgrown turning and picked up a path for Cardoso - we realised before losing too much height and got back on track. Route 124 climbed around the East of the property. Route 124 crossed several gullies, which were occasionally tricky given the wet conditions. The gully North of where Route 124 meets from the East was particularly perilous: the bridge is in bad shape, and while we all crossed safely I was tempted to rope up. Route 124 was good for wildlife: Muflon and Deer putting in appearances.

We stopped for lunch at 1300h at Casa Columbara. Approaching Rifugio La Fania we had an encounter with a dog - which at first we thought might be wild, but turned out to be with a goat herder; and then another with donkey(!), which took some shaking off. Think he was after our apples!  Rifugio La Fania (900m) was closed, so we rested briefly (by now it was quite cold) before pushing on for Rifugeo Del Freo (1180m), arriving at 1630h. We arranged dinner for 1900h. Steve headed out to recce the route around to the North of the mountains: Route 139 (Boria Di Canala) was impassable with deep snow, and 2 gullies on Route 9 were snowy but navigable. We dined at 1900h, then were finally treated to a view of Pania Della Croce. Bed, generator off for 2200h. Total distance: 9KM  Total climb: 1200m

Sunday:
Cold and overcast, we departed for Rifugio Rossi (1609m) at 0830h via Routes 9 and 127 at 0830h, arriving 1120h. Deep snow above 1500m, visibility down to 20 metres, 0 degrees C.  Steve thought that proceeding to either Pania Secca (1709m) or Pania Della Croce (1858m) would be too risky in such conditions without winter gear. We stayed in the warmth for an hour before descending quickly for lunch near Monte Piglionico (1142m) at 1345h. We then descended via Route 134 to Fornovolasco, arriving 1645h.  Much earned Peroni grande were ordered and guzzled.  Followed by much needed showers, then food and a sample of the local Grappa.  We enjoyed the awed faces of the locals when we showed them the snowbound pic of Rifugio Rossi. Total distance: 12.5km Total climb: 650m
